Design of Edge Magazine

About This Project

What we did

TukTuk Creative Marketing presented Katie with ideas for streamlining the magazine’s social media channels, designed the 2018 72-page edition and implemented project management tool Asana for easy communication between the UK and the magazine’s offices, which are based in Tignes, France.

Reflecting on the design work Katie from EDGE Magazine said:

Why did you choose TukTuk?

Due to extenuating circumstances, the graphic designer who normally works on the magazine was unable to do so this year, so I needed to find a replacement.

I’d worked previously with Vicky at The Sentinel newspaper where I worked as a reporter and she as a sub-editor. I therefore knew that she had the ability to work quickly to deadlines, to be creative and to offer the editorial input I required.

What were your concerns when choosing a graphic designer to work on the magazine?

I was looking for a company which could be quick, flexible, organised, creative and could suggest both editorial and design ideas. I also needed a designer who could come up with graphics and layout ideas when pictures were lacking. It was important that I received the designed pages back quickly and that re-edits were done promptly and properly – even though I’m based in France!

TukTuk introduced me to Asana, a project management tool which allowed myself and the team to communicate and respond quickly to one another. Being in two separate countries didn’t affect the project in any way as we could resolve any issues with edits and proofs very quickly through this platform.

Through her hard work, skill and expertise, Vicky has ensured that this year’s magazine is by far the best edition in terms of design. I believe that this is due not only to her technical and creative capabilities, but to her ability to both understand and meet her client’s needs.

How did TukTuk help on the magazine?

TukTuk exceeded my expectations on every task I asked of them. The team kept to the style themes of the previous issues, but also suggested layout improvements. They were quick to react to requests, doing everything possible to accommodate them, or made alternative suggestions. If an idea I had wouldn’t work, they would be straightforward and tell me. TukTuk is comprised of problem solvers and the team always offered solutions and advice.

When last-minute issues cropped up involving extra work, they were willing to do whatever it took to produce the best magazine possible, and their efforts were incredibly appreciated. It is obvious that the team takes great pride in its work and in helping other businesses.

How would you describe your experience of working with Vicky?

Working with TukTuk was a real pleasure. On top of the magazine work, they offered extra advice which has really helped my digital marketing. They are passionate about helping the businesses they work with and offer a lot of extra value. The team has kept in touch with me, showing interest in the development of my online business and offering contacts and suggestions.

Vicky, in particular, is also a real team player; she even flew to my office in France to finalise the magazine! It was invaluable to have her presence in the days leading up to our print deadline and she put in incredibly long hours.

Through their hard work, skill and expertise, TukTuk has ensured that this year’s magazine is by far the best edition in terms of design. I believe that this is due not only to the team’s technical and creative capabilities, but to their ability to both understand and meet their client’s needs.

Have you received feedback regarding the design of the latest issue?

All the advertisers and readers have told me it’s the best-looking magazine so far and very effective in terms of attracting readers.
